Shirtless Man Arrested For Climbing Eiffel Tower Before Olympic Closing Ceremony

Right as the Olympic closing ceremony was set to take place on Sunday in Paris, many witnessed a shirtless man climbing the Eiffel Tower.

After police were called, apparently he still kept on attempting to reach the top until finally being surrounded by authorities.

"An individual started climbing the Eiffel Tower at 2:45 p.m., police intervened and the person was detained," a Paris policeman told The Associated Press.

As the one bystander narrated, "There's a dude climbing the Eiffel Tower, he just passed the blue ring. Uh, I don't think he's wearing a shirt... that's crazy."

As far as the identity of the shirtless dude, evidently he is a 33-year-old professional climber from Great Britain.

After he was arrested and escorted away by law enforcement, the man appeared calm and smiled for the cameras while saying, "It's bloody warm, innit?" which may explain why he took off his shirt.

His motive for climbing the 330-meter (1,083-foot) tower, without ropes, remains unknown at this time, but he was ultimately apprehended around halfway up.

According to reports, in light of the festivities more than 30,000 police officers were deployed around Paris on Sunday to ensure the safety of those in the city on the last day of the Olympics.

All in all, the climber stole the show as the 2024 Paris Games officially came to a close. That is to say, in view of the closing ceremony, it appeared to have received as much backlash as the controversial opening ceremony.
