Per the police report, Busch was clocked going 18 MPH over the posted speed limit (45 MPH). As Deputy Zalepka noted that Busch, who is a Mooresville resident, "had red glassy eyes" and "a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath," according to court records.

Busch also admitted to drinking before operating his motor vehicle, as he had a blood-alcohol concentration of .17, which is more than double the North Carolina legal limit (.08).

The 46-year-old now has his license revoked for 30 days and is scheduled for a September 19 court date, facing speeding charges in addition to DWI, careless and reckless driving.

Upon his release from jail, Busch issued an apology statement.

"I'm very disappointed in myself and I apologize to my family, my racing family, and to my fans. I will work with the authorities to rectify the situation and work with the county to make it a safer place in the future."

Over the course of his 24-year career, Busch won 34 NASCAR Cup Series races, including a Daytona 500 win in 2017. To note, he finished in the top-10 339 times over the course of 776 career races.

To point out, Kurt's younger brother Kyle Busch has 63 Cup wins, which are most among active drivers (9th all-time), as he is also the all-time record-holder for wins in both the NASCAR Xfinity Series (102) and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (66).
