The bat dog for the Single-A baseball Clearwater (Fla.) Threshers made a name for itself, and from the looks of things, may not yet be quite ready for the big leagues.

Or maybe it was giving its opinion on being a bat dog in the first place. Or perhaps it didn't care for the way the Threshers have been playing lately.
Or maybe, as any cat would tell you, it's just not real bright.
No matter how you spin it, the dog was captured on video racing onto the field, showing some excitement ... and then doing what dogs often love to do. It pooped. Maybe that's why it is still in the minors.
Either way, the world went nuts.
"They say you learn something new every day," wrote Larry Larson, known as MLB Larry on X. "Today, I learned that nothing brings this app together quite like a dog pooping on a baseball field."

The tragedy occurred in the infield, between first and second base. So hey, maybe the pooch just wanted to make sure the opponent thought twice — or three or four times — about stealing.
What makes this video equally entertaining is that the pitcher, while warming up, turned and looked at the dog between pitches. He noticed the dog squatting, paused for a second, then went right on warming up. Hey, not his problem.
Back at the scene of the crime.
6:30 first pitch… Baseball will be played. No promises on an encore performance from Lucy.

The dog's name is reportedly Lily. It is not known if she's been demoted to rookie league.
Frankly, though, this is minor-league baseball at its best. Dogs, fun, America's pastime and gimmicks gone wrong. But that's just the way it can go during the dog days of the season.
