LeBron James, Jayson Tatum Among Those Featured In New Netflix NBA Reality Series

A new NBA series from Netflix will give you an inside look at Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, Miami Heat wing Jimmy Butler and others, and it's coming to you this fall.

More specifically, the series, entitled Starting 5, will also feature Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum and Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis. Per the announcement from Netflix, Starting 5 "will follow their 2023-24 season on and off the court." It tips off Oct. 9.

These, of course, are five of the game's brightest stars, and there's no bigger NBA name than James. He turns 40 in December.

How Netflix got players to agree to this inside look ... well, that actually shouldn't have been too tough. They can control the narrative and take fans on a journey that could go down in NBA lore. In 20 years, this is a show that highly likely will be remembered.

While James would be the star of any show, Edwards and Butler also have strong personalities and are among the fan favorites. So expect this to be a smash hit. While the NBA doesn't always do great at the box office (i.e. television ratings for games), what takes place off the court is generally a big deal.

This will make for great conversation and perhaps draw in some new followers of the league. These days, Netflix is bigger than ESPN or even ABC.

So this is sort of the Hard Knocks of the NBA. While it won't focus on one team, it is expected to bring some its biggest personalities to life.
