NFL Investigating Browns Quarterback Deshaun Watson, Who Is Facing New Sexual Assault Allegations

The NFL is looking into yet another civil lawsuit that was filed Monday accusing Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual assault and battery from an incident that allegedly took place in October 2020 when he was playing for the Houston Texans.

League spokesperson, Brian McCarthy gave a statement regarding the matter.

"We are reviewing the complaint, and we will look into the matter under the personal conduct policy. Not looking at commissioner's exempt list as there's been no formal charges and the league's review has just begun."

The woman suing Watson, is referred to as "Jane Doe" on the court records, and in view of the charges being taken against the NFL quarterback, they stem from a date night evening he had at the woman's apartment.

According to the lawsuit, Watson supposedly met the woman at a Houston-area restaurant, and the two agreed to have dinner at her apartment.

That is to say, apparently the date got off to a rough start, as Watson had trouble finding her apartment and began aggressively yelling at her through the phone, referencing that he didn't "have time for this."

Next, upon entering her apartment, while the woman was applying makeup in her bathroom, Watson got naked laying face down on her bed, subsequently asking her to massage his buttocks. The lawsuit states that she "tried to appease Watson by rubbing his back, rather than his buttocks."

Then she said Watson turned over and asked her to massage his groin area, and the woman responded by telling him she wasn't a masseuse.

According to the lawsuit, he then partially disrobed Jane Doe and allegedly sexually assaulted her for several minutes, before she was able to escape by grabbing something heavy for self-defense. After this, according to the lawsuit, Watson then stormed out of the apartment.

A Browns spokesperson gave a statement to ESPN, "We will respect the due process our legal system affords regarding the recently filed civil suit and follow the NFL's guidelines on this matter."

To point out, Watson has already settled 23 of the 24 civil lawsuits filed against him in the summer of 2022, as two dozen women came forward accusing him of sexual misconduct during massage sessions.

Although this new accuser is seemingly unrelated to the massage parlor incidents, the same attorney, Tony Buzbee, who worked the cases of the other women is now representing the latest victim to come forward in this new developing case.

Despite all of the drama surrounding Watson, the Browns made a blockbuster trade with the Texans centered around acquiring the quarterback following the 2021 season. Notably, this deal included six draft picks (three first-round picks) in exchange for Watson, as he was also given a fully guaranteed $230 million deal.

This has been referred to as one of the worst trades, considering that this amount of guaranteed money was the most ever in NFL history at the time.

Due to suspensions and injuries, Watson has only appeared in 13 games, including Sunday's 33-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and in view of his on-the-field performance, it has been underwhelming thus far.

The 28-year-old quarterback has passed for 2,386 yards (59% completion rate) and thrown 15 touchdowns/11 interceptions in a Browns uniform.
