Ravens first-round pick sustains neck injury in car accident

The Baltimore Ravens will be without cornerback Nate Wiggins on Sunday after he sustained a neck injury in a car accident.

Head coach John Harbaugh announced the news Friday during a media availability.

"Nate was in a car accident a couple of days ago," Harbaugh said on Friday. "They're kind of working through it. Looks like he's not going to be able to make it to the game.

"He'll be out for this game with that. He's fine. He's healthy, he's fine, but he's just not going to be able to play."

Wiggins, a first-round pick out of Clemson in the 2024 NFL Draft, played in the season-opening loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He played 17 snaps during the Thursday night game and allowed one catch for one yard.

Wiggins practiced Wednesday as the Ravens prepared to host the Las Vegas Raiders. He missed practice on both Thursday and Friday. The team listed the injury as "neck/concussion."

Defensive coordinator addressed Wiggins's absence on Thursday during a media availability.

"Nate's going to be fine," Orr said, per the Ravens. "Nate's going to play a lot of football for us. He's going to play a lot of great football for us.

"I think (he's going to) just continue to come in and continue to work, and he played well in the (Kansas City) game as well. The better he plays, the more he's going to be out there."

Wiggins is not the only defender missing practice ahead of Sunday's game. Linebacker Kyle Van Noy missed Wednesday and Thursday with an eye issue before returning in a limited fashion on Friday.

He enters the weekend bearing a questionable designation as he recovers from a fractured orbital bone sustained in the opening game against the Chiefs. If Van Noy plays, he will wear a visor.

"I'm feeling good, feeling optimistic, I still have two days," Van Noy said. "Trying to do everything I can. I'm just grateful for the specialists I have and the doctors that have treated me."

The Baltimore Ravens will host the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. CBS will provide coverage.
