No. 8 Miami Scores 21 Unanswered Points In The Fourth Quarter To Complete Late-Game Comeback Vs. California

Quarterback Cam Ward and the Miami Hurricanes traveled 2,500 miles to take on unranked California, and it turned out to be an instant classic Saturday night in Berkeley. That is to say, with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter Miami trailed 18-38, then after multiple defensive stops, Ward went on to throw for two touchdowns and rush for one, as the Hurricanes came back to win 39-38.

Ward had his Heisman moment with less than two minutes remaining in the game, as he led a 92-yard game-winning drive, that started with a 77-yard throw and catch to his favorite target Xavier Restrepo. And this was capped off with a touchdown grab by Elijah Arroyo.

Despite getting off to a slow start, Ward ended the game with 437 passing yards (33-for-53). And in particular, he accounted for 277 total yards and three total touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone.

To note, this is the second straight game that Miami won in the closing seconds, as they defeated Virginia Tech 38-34 the week prior.

And now with this fourth quarter comeback vs. the Bears, the Hurricanes (6-0) scrape by and avoid what would have been yet another upset loss for a top ranked team.

To point out, if Cal held on, Miami would have been the sixth Top-11 team to be stunned this week, as the following teams lost: No. 1 Alabama (vs. Vanderbilt, 40-35), No. 4 Tennessee (vs. Arkansas, 19-14), No. 9 Missouri (vs. No. 25 Texas A&M, 41-10), No. 10 Michigan (vs. Washington, 27-17), and No. 11 USC (vs. Minnesota 27-24).
