Soccer Star George Baldock Tragically Passed Away At 31 Years Old

International Greece soccer star George Baldock has tragically passed away at 31 years old, as his body was found in a pool at his Athens home.

Notably, Baldock started his pro career for MK Dons in 2010, before going on to be a standout defender for Sheffield United (2017-2024) in the EFL league. Then most recently, Baldock had signed a three-year deal with Panathinaikos F.C.

His death was confirmed in a family statement that was released on Wednesday.

"We can confirm that George has sadly passed away. As a family we are in shock at this terrible loss. We ask please that the media respect our privacy at this time."

Upon arriving at the scene, the emergency responders tried all they could to revive Baldock, but were unable to bring him back to life. The cause of his death is unknown at this time.

The Greece national team put out a statement following the news that read, "With profound sadness and sorrow, the National Team and the Greek Football Federation bid farewell to George Baldock."

"There are no words to describe the human pain caused by the news of the unexpected loss of one of our own, young, man. The moment forces silence. Condolences to his family. Condolences from his second family."

Sheffield United also wrote a tribute piece on their former Buckinghamshire-born player, who played seven seasons at Bramall Lane.

"Sheffield United Football Club is shocked and extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former player, George Baldock."

"The defender was extremely popular with supporters, staff, and team-mates who pulled on a red and white shirt alongside him."
