Earlier this year, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' father was arrested on DWI charges. And now that the arrest police cam video has been released (via TMZ), it appears that Mahomes Sr. tried everything he could to get out of going to jail, and that includes using his son's name.

"Are y'all serious?" Mahomes Sr. told the cops, while seen wearing a 'Kansas City vs. Everybody' shirt. "I'm supposed to be going to the Super Bowl to watch my son play football, and this is what we're doing?"
This arrest happened just before Super Bowl LVIII was set to take place, and Mahomes Sr. kept reminding the police that his son was going to be playing in the big game.
"Can I say one thing?" He asked. "My son is getting ready to play in the f***ing Super Bowl, OK? Just listen to me. I am not drunk. I promise you. I've had some drinks. But he can't have this right now. Listen, this can't happen."
"Dude. This is crazy," Mahomes continued. "My son is getting ready to play in the f***ing Super Bowl and I'm doing interviews — five or six a day. And then, now, this s***'s going to be on the news which is going to f*** with him, and it's probably going to f*** him up."
Mahomes apparently was hoping the cops were Chiefs fans, as he was insinuating that him being arrested will cause his son to play bad.
"And he probably won't win the Super Bowl. But that's fine. If that's what y'all want to do, that's good."
Even after all that jabbering, Mahomes Sr. was taken to jail and was found to have a .23 BAC.
That is to say, the 54-year-old ended up receiving a felony count of DWI, which is his third time (2008, 2019). With this in mind, according to state law, he could have been penalized by spending up to 10 years in prison, but after taking a deal with the prosecutors, Mahomes Sr. is currently serving a five-year probation sentence.
Ultimately, he was able to attend the big game after all, as he was released hours later, so he could witness his son win his third Super Bowl in Las Vegas. In view of the game, the Chiefs won 25-22 in overtime over the San Francisco 49ers, with Mahomes Jr. racking up 399 total yards and two touchdowns.

As for Mahomes Sr., who is a former MLB pitcher, he has seemingly learned from his mistakes. So much so, that he previously told reporters that he hasn't even had a drink since this experience. Yet, this hasn't stopped Mahomes from having run-ins with the law, as five months later he was caught driving with an invalid license.
