Sources told NFL insider Ian Rapoport that the Kansas City Chiefs and Tennessee Titans are finalizing a trade on Wednesday morning that will send Hopkins to the AFC West. The reported compensation will be a fifth-round pick that can turn into a fourth-rounder.

According to Rapoport, the Titans will "eat" some of Hopkins' remaining salary.

The move to the Chiefs benefits Patrick Mahomes and the offense considering the injuries that have ravaged the receiving corps. Marquise Brown has been on Injured Reserve since September after undergoing surgery on his shoulder.

Rashee Rice landed on Injured Reserve in early October after sustaining a knee injury in a collision with Mahomes. JuJu Smith-Schuster then left last weekend's game against the 49ers with a hamstring injury. He will be out this week against the Raiders.

Hopkins is the latest high-profile receiver to change teams in recent weeks via trade. The Raiders traded Davante Adams to the Jets and then the Browns traded Amari Cooper to the Bills.

A first-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Hopkins started his career with the Houston Texans. He joined the team to complement Andre Johnson but ultimately took over as the top option in 2014 and beyond.

During his seven seasons in Houston, Hopkins piled up 8,602 receiving yards and 54 touchdowns. He topped 1,100 receiving yards five times and 1,500 yards twice.

The veteran receiver's time in Houston ended in 2020 as the team traded him to the Cardinals. He went over 1,400 yards receiving in his first season in Arizona but failed to surpass 750 yards in 2021 and 2022 while only appearing in 19 games.

One season ended early due to injuries while the other started late due to a six-game suspension for a violation of the league's performance-enhancing drugs policy.

The Cardinals released Hopkins after the 2022 season. He returned to the AFC South and signed with the Titans. He topped 1,000 yards receiving once again while returning to a full schedule, but he only has 173 yards this season as the team has struggled with consistency out of its quarterbacks.
