Rams Nearly Traded Cooper Kupp to Chiefs
With the NFL trade deadline approaching one of the names that has surfaced is Rams star wide receiver Cooper Kupp. After the emergence of second-year standout Puka Nakua last season, and Kupp's long injury history multiple reports have suggested that the Rams would be open to moving the star wide receiver amid a disappointing season.
According the NFL insider Diana Russini, the Kansas City Cheifs were very close to striking a deal to land Kupp, but they were unwilling to sacrifice high draft picks.
"The Rams and the Chiefs discussed Cooper Kupp, but the Super Bowl champs needed to trade with a team that was willing to take on a large chunk of the salary and didn't want to give up high picks. Tennessee is the team willing to play ball," Russini tweeted on October 23.
Despite being 5-0 the Chiefs have also fallen victim to the injury bug this season. They have lost two of their major playmakers in Isaiah Pacheco and Rashee Rice, so making a trade for Kupp would have made all the sense in the world. But after being unwilling to succumb to the Rams' demands they changed course and struck a deal to land All-Pro wide receiver Deandre Hopkins from the Tennesse Titans.
With at least one suitor off the table, Kupp's future with the Rams remains unsure. But the star wide receiver is at least "aware," of the rumors that he could be dealt before the deadline.
"I'm aware of it, but at the end of the day, I mean, I'm going to be where my feet are," Kupp said. "That's all I know. I have a job to do here.
