"This investigation continues to evolve, and new information has come to light that we are actively addressing. We take every investigation seriously, especially when new allegations and facts emerge, and we are committed to acting in a swift and transparent manner."
The statement continued, "Once new facts are confirmed, we make the necessary changes in our decision-making process. Let it be clear: no one in the City of Detroit is above the law. Anyone who commits a crime will be held accountable, regardless of their position or status."
During the traffic stop, which happened on October 8, there were two guns located under Williams' passenger seat.
According to WXYZ news in Detroit, the one weapon was actually registered to Williams' brother, who is a concealed pistol license holder.
However, the other one is registered to Williams, who does not have a CPL. Throughout the traffic stop Williams could be heard repeating, "I'm Jameson Williams, Detroit Lions player."

The cop at one point even asked, "What do you do for them [the team]?"
Williams responded, "wide receiver."
At first the receiver was placed in handcuffs and put in the back of a police car, as he was supposedly getting ready to go to jail. However, all this changed when the sergeant showed up, and he was evidently a Jameson Williams fan. That is to say, he could be heard telling the arresting officers, "I'm so mad at you two."
According to the local news outlet, the supervising sergeant even had a Lions background on his phone.
While taking a call with the lieutenant, the sergeant was heard asking, "Okay, beautiful. I'm good to let him go?"
"You're a (expletive) hero. Thank you so much," he said before the call ended.
Following Williams being released, Detroit police have since submitted a warrant request for the NFL player's arrest regarding the crime of him carrying a concealed weapon in a motor vehicle, without a license (per TMZ).
Through six games played this season, Williams has caught 17 passes for 361 yards and three touchdowns.
Unfortunately, right now the 23-year-old is currently serving a two-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substances policy.
In view of his return to the field, Williams' first game back with the division-leading Lions will be vs. the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football (November 10; 5:20 pm ET).
