Williamson's injury already caused him to miss New Orleans' game against the Orlando Magic on Friday and now it threatens to keep him out for much longer.
Zion Williamson's NBA career has seen its share of time off due to injuries. While the 24-year-old managed to appear in a career high 70 regular-season games in 2023-24, injuries have once again forced a slow start to his 2024-25 campaign. The Pelicans' star has only appeared in six games this season. While he only missed the first game of the season due to an illness, he also sat out games on Sunday and Monday due to hamstring issues. There were high hopes for the forward after he played in Wednesday's loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers before he was ruled out in Friday's matchup.
Fans took to social media to react to the news of Zion's time off.
"Oh my God its happening again," said one user.
"When will it stop," said another.
One person teased, "Why even have a medical staff at this point"
"How badly this team is injured this far into the season must be studied," another user asked.
NOLA Can't Catch a Break To Start the Season
The Pelicans are off to a slow start in the season, only managing to win three of their first 10 games. A loss of a star caliber player like Williamson at a time like this is bad enough but the team is already without some key players. Dejounte Murray, Trey Murphy, Jordan Hawkins, Herb Jones, and CJ McCollum were all absent from last game, as several of their other top players are also dealing with injuries.
The Pelicans will host the Brooklyn Nets on Monday as they look to to stay afloat in the Western Conference.
