Mike Tomlin Gets Honest on TNF Preparation

No matter the teams playing, the matchups on Thursday Night Football underdeliver more often than not. One of the reasons that some fans believe there is such a dropoff in the Thursday Night games is the short turnaround time for players. There are only three days between teams' matchups the previous Sunday and they still have to practice, not leaving a lot of time for players to rest and recover.

However, Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin says he tries to stay ahead of the curve by overpreparing for matchups in during a short week.

"For me, I drown myself in situational scenarios. I try to have the feel of six or seven-day preparation on a four-day workweek, so there's no shortcut to that," Tomlin told reporters ahead of Thursday Night Football.

"I absorb a lot of video. I've had as many formal and informal conversations with components of my staff relative to circumstances. There's a great deal of comfort in preparedness when you're on a seven-day cycle between games, and it's my job to get myself to that place on a four-day work week, and that's how I spend my last 24 hours."
