Michael Vick May Have Lined Up College Coaching Gig

Michael Vick is preparing for his first major step into coaching, and it looks like he might already have a new job lined up. The former NFL star confirmed Monday that he is in talks regarding the head coaching position at Norfolk State.

In an interview with The Virginian-Pilot, Vick revealed that he has had discussions with university officials and is excited about the opportunity to take the reins at the FCS school.

"I expect a resolution soon," Vick said, expressing optimism about the potential role.

While Vick's coaching resume isn't extensive, his ties to the area could make him an appealing hire for Norfolk State. A native of the Tidewater region in Virginia, Vick would likely be a fan favorite locally, with his roots in the area adding an extra layer of excitement to the hire.

Since retiring from the NFL in 2017, Vick has kept busy as a TV analyst for FOX Sports, but his passion for the game has always been clear. Though he doesn't have formal coaching experience, he did serve as an analyst for the now-defunct Alliance of American Football in 2019, giving him a brief taste of the coaching world.

Taking over a program that has struggled recently would be no small task. Norfolk State has not had a winning season since 2021 and is coming off a disappointing 4-8 record in 2024.

However, Vick's leadership and charisma could provide the spark the program needs to turn things around. If the deal gets done, it could mark the beginning of a new era at Norfolk State — one led by a player whose impact on the game is still felt, even after his playing days.
