Mike Vrabel is likely to be one of the most sought-after candidates for NFL head coaching positions in the coming weeks, and the New England Patriots could soon have a vacancy that might make his return a real possibility.

Longtime Patriots reporter Tom E. Curran reported Tuesday on Early Edition that Vrabel is indeed open to the idea of coaching in New England once again.
"Mike Vrabel would be interested in coaching for the New England Patriots," Curran said, adding that despite the current issues facing the team, Vrabel would consider a return. "I think that he looks at the Patriots, and despite the warts, says, 'I'll go back there.'"
Of course, Vrabel's return would hinge on whether New England moves on from Jerod Mayo, who is only in his first season as head coach. The Patriots have committed to Mayo as their "coach-in-waiting," particularly after parting ways with Bill Belichick. However, Mayo's tenure has not been smooth, and the team's struggles, combined with some recent comments after a loss to the Arizona Cardinals, may have placed him on the hot seat.

If the Patriots do decide to make a change, Vrabel could be at the top of their list. The 49-year-old has established himself as a capable leader during his six years as head coach of the Tennessee Titans, going 54-45 and leading the team to the playoffs three times. Vrabel, a former linebacker for New England from 2001 to 2008, won three Super Bowls with the team, making his potential return all the more intriguing.
While Vrabel may have opportunities for more lucrative or stable head coaching jobs, it's clear he's open to at least having a conversation with the Kraft family about the Patriots. With New England's uncertain future, don't be surprised if Vrabel finds himself back in the fold.
