However, it's not what most expected. Belichick will be transitioning to the college football world. In December, he agreed to a contract to become the next head coach at the University of North Carolina.

Steve Belichick Set to Join Tar Heels Coaching Staff

As the current college football season is still active, Belichick already has his sights set on next season, as he has already started building his coaching staff. A new report from ESPN's Pete Thamel suggests that Belichick's son, Steve, is set to join him on the Tar Heels sideline.

"Washington defensive coordinator Steve Belichick is expected to join his father Bill Belichick's staff at North Carolina in the same role at the conclusion of Washington's season, sources confirmed to ESPN on Sunday," Thamel writes.

"He is slated to coach for the Huskies against the Louisville Cardinals in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl on Dec. 31 and his $1.2 million buyout goes away the next day. The sides are expected to formalize an agreement soon after."

Tom Brady Gets Honest on Patriots Departure

If Bill Belichick's tenure at North Carolina is anything like his NFL Career, Tar Heel fans have a lot to be excited about. Belichick and future Hall of Famer Tom Brady erected a dynasty with the New England Patriots, delivering six Super Bowl titles to the franchise.

But despite being one of the most successful teams ever the relationship between the head coach and quarterback hit an unexpected rough patch.  And that led to Tom parting ways with the Patriots and joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019. Brady said when he eventually decided to depart New England in 2019, there was nothing that could have changed his mind.

"Me and coach Belichick, we did what we loved and competed for 20 years together," Brady said per The Athletic. "But I wasn't going to sign another contract [in New England] even if I wanted to play until [I was] 50. Based on how things had gone, I wasn't going to sign up for more of it."

Things had soured so badly to the point that Brady had voiced his concerns to Patriots head coach Robert Kraft. Kraft noted that Brady often yearned for Belichick's approval, which the former Patriots head coach was often reluctant to give.

"Tom and I had a number of discussions about how Bill treated him," the Patriots owner said. "Tommy is very sensitive. He was always looking for Bill's approval, almost in a father-son kind of way. And that's not Bill's style ever to give that."
