Scheffler's manager issued a statement on Dec. 27 announcing the news. He said that Scheffler should be back to 100% in the near future. He will just not be able to compete in Hawaii in January.
"On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass," Scheffler's manager, Blake Smith, said.
"Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery. He has been told that he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next scheduled tournament is The American Express."
Scheffler is fresh off a standout season. The veteran golfer was the world's No. 1 golfer every week in 2024 as he delivered numerous wins. Some of his accomplishments include the Masters and The Players Championship. Scheffler won an Olympic gold medal and his first FedExCup.
Scheffler was named the PGA Tour Player of the Year for the third consecutive season. He became the first player since Tiger Woods in 2005-07 to achieve this feat.
The PGA Tour season begins with The Sentry on Jan. 2-5. This competition will take place at Maui's Kapalua Resort. The top golfers will then compete in the Sony Open the following week. This competition will also take place in Hawaii.
The American Express, which should feature Scheffler back in the lineup, will take place on Jan. 16-19. The top golfers will head to La Quinta, California, for the event that amateur Nick Dunlap won this year. Scheffler ended the competition in a tie for 17th place with three other golfers.
Scheffler most recently competed in the Hero World Challenge, a December competition hosted by Tiger Woods. He beat Tom Kim, Justin Thomas, Akshay Bhatia, and Keegan Bradley in the Bahamas to defend his win from 2023. He also tied the record of 25-under-par 263 while supporting Woods' foundation.
