Sanders: 'I'm Not Going to Let My Son Get Down in No Foolishness'
Sanders appeared on the Tamron Hall Show on Friday and reaffirmed that he'll "intervene" if he doesn't approve of his son, top QB prospect Shedeur Sanders, being selected to a team in April. Shedeur Sanders is a projected top 10 pick in this year's NFL draft and is expected to be the first quarterback taken.
Colorado's head coach doubled down, saying his time in the league allows him to guide his son away from toxic work environments.
"It's not like who I would like for him to play for. It's a couple of teams that I won't allow him to play for," Sanders clarified while sitting with Hall. "So, it's not like that. But this is my profession. I know what's behind the curtain. We ain't got to get back there for me to understand what's behind the curtain and what's not prominent for my son. I'm not doing it."
Deion Sanders has been adamant about his son not playing in the wrong city, going as far as threatening to pull an "Eli" if he's not pleased with the draft selection.
The "Eli" saga, as Sanders recalls, goes back to when multi-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning declined to play for the San Diego Chargers after they drafted him No. 1 overall in 2004.
Five of the teams drafting in the top 10 are in the hunt for a new quarterback including the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders. The Tennessee Titans, who hold the No. 1 overall pick, also have an immediate need at the position.
