Sanders Says He'll Only Coach His Sons
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the two-time Super Bowl champion has "a very strong interest" in becoming the Las Vegas Raiders head coach. The report went on to say that Sanders has already expressed his interest to the organization through his "NFL-connected associates."
Deion Sanders never showed interest in coaching in the NFL in the past. But with his two sons, Shilo and Shedeur, declaring for this year's draft, the thought has surely been circulating around the sports world.
The elder Sanders recently appeared on "Good Morning America" and said he'd consider the NFL if he had the chance to coach his sons. His son, Shedeur, is a projected top 10 pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Las Vegas locked up the No. 6 pick after finishing 4-13 this season and could have a shot at taking Sanders but would likely have to make a trade up to make that happen.
Las Vegas Raiders Have Begun the Search for Head Coach After Firing Pierce
That scenario seems plausible. The Raiders desperately need a franchise quarterback and it wouldn't hurt to snag a six-time first-team All-Pro as a head coach, especially after firing Antonio Pierce on Tuesday. In his second season with the Buffaloes, Deion Sanders led the program to a 9-4 record with an Alamo Bowl appearance against BYU. He also mentored Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter who expected to be a top 10 pick in this year's draft.
Las Vegas has reportedly held interviews with several coaches already including Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. The club is scheduled to interview former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and former Jets coach Robert Saleh next week.
