With a career 34-2-1 record (24 knockouts), the 36-year-old has been one of the most decorated boxers in the game.

That is, both losses for the 2x heavyweight champion of the world came against Oleksandr Usyk (23-0; 14 KO), who unanimously defeated Fury last month in a rematch bout, after also claiming victory in May.

"I'm going to make this short and sweet," Fury said in a video posted to Instagram, "I'd like to announce my retirement from boxing... It's been a blast. I've loved every single minute of it."

Fury ended with a cryptic message that also had some puzzled.

"I'm going to end with this... Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. GET UP!'

This phrase may be Fury referring to the fact that he is not happy with the judges' decision in his last bout with Usyk.

"Even Dick Turpin wore a mask" is a common expression when someone feels that they have been robbed or conned. Turpin was an infamous 18th century English thief" (ESPN).

For those who don't know, "Turpin, executed at the age of 33 in 1739, was most closely associated with highway robbery. He became famous for robbing stage coaches while on horseback and was involved in an Essex gang of deer thieves" (DailyMailUK).

To point out, this isn't the first time Fury retired, as he also mentioned it after his fight with David Haye was canceled for a second time (2013), then said he was done following his win over Wladimir Klitschkof (2016), while also announcing his retirement when he defeated Dillian Whyte to retain his WBC title at London's Wembley Stadium (2022).

On this note, fans do not believe this is really the end, as seemingly Fury still has some left in the tank.

One of the main reasons behind the doubts is that Fury has yet to fight fellow British boxer Anthony Joshua, 35, who is also a 2x heavyweight champion with a 28-4; 25 KO record.

With this in mind, it would be very uncharacteristic of Fury to pass up such a huge payday opportunity, so there is hope for a return.

One user on X wrote, "Tyson Fury retired today, Looking forward to seeing him fight AJ in December."
