ESPN provided the report Wednesday afternoon while citing Ewers' agent, Ron Slavin. Ewers then posted a video on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, confirming that he will indeed aim to move on to professional football.

"My entire life, I've dreamed about playing football on the 40 acres," Ewers said in his video. "These past three years have been some of the best years I could have imagined. The relationships I've built between coaches and teammates will last forever.

"I'm truly thankful for the opportunity to play football in my home state at the best university in the world. With prayer and careful consideration, I'm officially declaring for the NFL Draft."

Ewers, who started his college career at Ohio State, transferred to the University of Texas after one season. He quickly became a difference-maker for the Longhorns. He threw for 2,177 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions in his first season as the team reached the Alamo Bowl.

Ewers improved his stats during his second season as he threw for more than 3,400 yards and 22 touchdowns. His interceptions remained at six. The Longhorns were one of four teams invited to the College Football Playoffs after winning the Big 12 title. They ultimately lost to the Washington Huskies by six points in the Semifinal round.

Last season, Texas' first in the SEC, featured Ewers throwing for a career-best 31 touchdowns. He led the Longhorns back to the College Football Playoffs where they defeated the Clemson Tigers and Arizona State Sun Devils. Ewers and Texas fell to Ohio State during the Semifinal round.

The "EA Sports College Football 2025" cover athlete will now join what is a smaller group of quarterback prospects. The list includes Alabama's Jalen Milroe, Miami's Cam Ward, Colorado's Shedeur Sanders, and Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart among others.
