According to school district of Philadelphia spokesperson, Monique Braxton, Scurry was getting into a car with his mom getting ready to go to Samuel Fels High School when the shots were fired. Upon being shot, Scurry was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
"I heard gunshots — multiple — and then just screaming from the mom," one neighbor said (via NBC Philadelphia 10). "I can still hear the mom's mother cry, seeing her baby on that floor like that."
"No arrests have been made," the Philadelphia Police Department said, "and no weapon was recovered."
Surveillance video footage did happen to capture a white-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee leaving the scene after shots were fired from the vehicle. On Wednesday, this Jeep was found and recovered by police in Northeast Philadelphia.
Scurry was a senior at the school, and a student-athlete, who was expected to receive both academic and athletic scholarships. That is to say, not only was he highly recruited as the captain of the basketball team, he also achieved the highest SAT scores at his school.
While police say they haven't found a motive, there are recent reports that the gun violence may have been a retaliation for a recent diss track he put out to his OPPs, under a pseudonym "Otvjoker."

"It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of the passing of one of our students whose life was tragically taken this morning," Rasper wrote. "...Our deepest condolences and thoughts go out to the family and friends of this student."
In wake of the tragedy, the school's upcoming basketball games this week have all been canceled, and there is now a GoFundMe page posted to help Scurry's family out with funeral expenses.
