CJ Stroud drops major praise for fellow Cali native Jayden Daniels

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has delivered countless highlights while leading the Commanders to the playoffs. His play has also led to some major praise from last season's Offensive Rookie of the Year, CJ Stroud.

"In my opinion, he's had the best rookie year of all-time," the Texans quarterback said about Daniels on Monday. "That's what...records are meant, they're meant to break."

To Stroud's point, the former LSU quarterback has delivered many record-setting moments. This includes last weekend's divisional-round game against the Lions when Daniels broke Andrew Luck's record for the most offensive yards (4,952) by a rookie (including playoffs).

The Commanders' quarterback entered the game needing 190 yards. He finished with 350 yards as the Commanders won 45-31.

Daniels' list of accomplishments includes being the first Commanders rookie quarterback since 1937 to lead the team to a playoff win. He also set an NFL rookie quarterback record with 891 rushing yards and six rushing TDs.

"He ain't had it easy," Stroud added. "His background — losing his grandparents. And the city he's from, San Bernardino, is not an easy place to be brought up in.

"So for him to beat the odds and do what he's doing, I'm so happy and proud of that dude. We talk a lot, and I'm very, very, very, very, very happy for him and very proud of him."

Stroud and the Texans exited the playoffs in the divisional round after losing to the Chiefs. Daniels and the Commanders will move on to battle the Eagles in the NFC Championship.

If Daniels can lead his team to the win in enemy territory, he will make NFL history as the first rookie quarterback to reach the Super Bowl.

This outcome is one that Stroud, a fellow native of the Inland Empire, certainly hopes to see.

"I don't root for many other teams, but I'm rooting for my boy," Stroud said while smiling. "I'm rooting for the Commanders."
