Heisman Trophy Winner Travis Hunter Suddenly The Safe Bet To Go No. 1 In NFL Draft

On Wednesday, Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker made waves with his comment that his team "won't pass on a generational talent with the first pick in the NFL draft." While Brinker didn't name names, it didn't take long for gamblers to connect the dots and zero in on Travis Hunter as the potential top pick in 2025.

Hunter, the electrifying Heisman Trophy winner out of Colorado, has already made a name for himself as a rare talent who can dominate at both wide receiver and cornerback. With his dynamic skill set, it's easy to see why he's become a hot name in the NFL draft conversation, and now it seems the odds are shifting in his favor.

Since Brinker's remarks, Hunter's odds to go No. 1 overall have seen a major jump, moving from long-shot territory in the +1500 range to much shorter odds at +150. The sudden surge has made him the second-most likely candidate behind only Miami quarterback Cam Ward. In a surprising twist, Shedeur Sanders, who had long been the favorite, has now dropped to third place.

"We've seen significant betting on Hunter since the comments made yesterday by Titans executives," BetMGM's Christian Cipollini said.

According to ESPN BET, Wednesday's betting activity on the No. 1 pick set a new record, with more wagers placed on the top pick than any other day since the 2025 NFL draft odds were first posted last fall. Of those bets, 62 percent were on Hunter to go first overall.

This sudden shift in odds serves as a reminder of how closely bettors are listening to every word from league insiders. In today's world of draft speculation, even a single comment from a team executive can send the odds spiraling — and the draft picture into a new direction.
