Towards the beginning of the season, concerns started to arise in Sacramento when Fox turned down a three-year/$165 million contract extension with the Kings, as he intended to look for a more lucrative deal in the summer of 2025.

Reportedly, San Antonio was Fox's "target destination" all along, and the 27-year-old will get his wish as he pairs up with last year's Rookie of the Year, Victor Wembanyama, in what is expected to be a lethal duo for years to come.

Although the Kings did not want to see Fox on the move, the writing appeared to be on the wall as the team fired head coach Mike Brown at the end of December.

The good news for Sacramento, is that they will be acquiring Lavine from the Bulls in return for losing their franchise point guard. Not to mention they will also get three first round picks (2025 CHA, 2027 SAS, 2031 MIN) and three second round picks (2025 CHI, 2028 DEN, 2028 own back).

Notably, this will be a reunion for Lavine and Kings' DeMar DeRozan, as both played together last season on the Bulls.

That is, in view of the rest of the trade, the Bulls will then receive, Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, and their own 2025 pick via the Spurs.

Certainly, the hype surrounding Fox has been growing as he is coming off his best year yet in 2023-24, where he earned his first All-Star appearance, won Clutch Player of the Year, averaged a career-high 26.6 points per game, all while leading the NBA in steals (2.0).

Fox will now be sharing a backcourt with 20-year veteran Chris Paul and 21-year-old Stephen Castle (No. 4 pick in 2024 Draft), while playing alongside superstar phenom, 7-foot-3 Wemby, as the Spurs hope to improve off their 21-25 record, vying for a potential post All-Star break playoff push.
