He made his debut with the team Saturday on an emotional day as the Mavs returned home for their first game after last week's league-altering trade.
Just two quarters into his first game with Dallas after a blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers, Davis had 24 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, three blocks against the in-state rival Rockets.
Then in the blink of an eye, the feeling around the former NBA champ's homecoming celebration completely flipped.
During the third quarter Davis went to defend near the paint, before falling to the ground with a non-contact injury. Davis was immediately escorted to the locker room.

During the fourth quarter, Dallas officially designated Davis as doubtful to return due to a "lower body injury."
Anthony Davis Expressed Excitement About New Journey in Dallas
Davis told reporters on Friday he was excited to bring life back to the city of Dallas after being traded for all-star Luka Doncic last Sunday.
I'm not surprised by the fans' reaction and the city's reaction, but it's my job to come in and play basketball and do what I'm supposed to do and give the fans hope and reassurance on why Nico brought me here."
"I don't know how tomorrow's going to be as far as the reaction, but I can't control that," Davis said. "What I can control, it's going and just winning basketball games and helping the team do whatever I can. But at the end of the day, I'm going to give the city life back."
