Eagles rookie delivers stunning pick-six against Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs' quest for a third consecutive Super Bowl win hit an unexpected bump in the road before halftime. Rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean delivered a stunning pick-six to extend the Philadelphia Eagles' lead.

The play happened with 7:12 remaining in the second quarter. Patrick Mahomes dropped back from the Chiefs' 16-yard line and rolled out to the right side of the field. He launched a pass toward the middle of the field where DeJean snagged the interception at the 40-yard line.

The rookie eluded multiple Chiefs players en route and reached the end zone. Guard Joe Thuney attempted to make the tackle, but he could not stop DeJean before he danced into the end zone. This play gave the Eagles a 16-point lead. A successful Jake Elliott extra point made the score 17-0.

The Eagles did not simply take a 17-point lead into halftime after the rookie scored a touchdown on the interception — on his birthday no less. The offense quickly got the ball back after Mahomes threw another interception. This time, it was Zack Braun who delivered the turnover.

Jalen Hurts led the offense 14 yards in three plays and found AJ Brown for a touchdown. This made the score 24-0 with just over one minute remaining in the first half.

The Chiefs had an opportunity to drive down the field before halftime and get some points on the board. They failed after a third-down pass to DeAndre Hopkins fell incomplete. The Chiefs had to punt from their own 29-yard line.

The expectation heading into Super Bowl 59 was that the Eagles and Chiefs would play a tight game considering the level of talent on both sides of the ball.

This was not the case as the Eagles built up a double-digit lead in the first half. The rookie then delivered a momentum-swinging play that stunned Taylor Swift, Mahomes, and all of the Chiefs fans in attendance.
