The 2024 college national champion Ohio State Buckeyes made a visit to the White House on Monday to celebrate their ninth title in school history. However, the ceremonial festivities didn't go all too smoothly, as Vice President JD Vance fumbled the trophy in an embarrassing moment caught on national TV.

The base of the 35-pound trophy appeared to break off as Vance tried to hold it up. Luckily, in the end running back TreVeyon Henderson saved the day by helping grab the trophy to prevent any further damage.
Vance, who actually graduated from OSU with a Bachelor's degree in 2009, responded to this incident on X.
"I didn't want anyone after Ohio State to get the trophy so I decided to break it."
The Buckeyes defeated Notre Dame 34-23 in the National Championship game, which was the first in the new 12-team College Football Playoff era. To note, the Buckeyes also won the championship during the 2014 season (42-20 vs. Oregon), which was the inaugural implementation of the playoff system.
"I'm proud of you guys," said former U.S. Senator JD Vance while speaking at the podium. "You guys were resilient. You were tough. You represented the state of Ohio well. You represented the whole country well."
Then Vance made a joke as he saw a rival Michigan fan in the crowd.
"I don't know who let the guy over in the corner here in a Michigan hat into this celebration... But I'm about to tell the Secret Service you've got a dangerous weapon."
