The incident occurred during the final minutes of practice. Matos remained on the field for more than 10 minutes while being tended to by team medical personnel, according to multiple reports. Teammates surrounded the 23-year-old as a helicopter arrived to transport him for further evaluation.
The Dolphins have not disclosed the nature of Matos' condition. However, Miami Herald reporter Barry Jackson and The Athletic noted that Matos was in stable condition as of Wednesday afternoon.
"The Dolphins did not disclose details about Matos' injury but said he was in stable condition," The Athletic wrote.
Though practice was called shortly after the incident, the team said the session had already been scheduled to end at that time and was not cut short because of Matos' situation.
Matos, listed at 6-foot-7 and 334 pounds, is entering his second season with Miami. A native of the Dominican Republic, he moved to the United States at age 17 and initially pursued a career in basketball. He played two years at New Mexico and one at South Florida before walking on to the USF football team.
He joined the Dolphins in 2024 as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program, designed to help international athletes earn opportunities in the league. He spent last season on the practice squad.
Further updates on Matos' condition are expected as more information becomes available.
