Hines-Allen, the seventh overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, sacked Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert in the red zone with 8:52 remaining in the second quarter. This stopped the drive and forced the Chargers to kick a field goal. This play also marked Hines Allen's 56th career sack, breaking his tie with Tony Brackens and setting the record for the most in franchise history.

Hines-Allen actually set the new franchise record on a milestone day in his career. He suited up for his 100th career game as he and the Jaguars faced off with the Chargers. He delivered two tackles and one sack in the first half while helping hold Herbert and the offense in check. The Jaguars' offense scored two rushing touchdowns to build up a 14-6 lead.

For comparison's sake, Brackens set the franchise record of 55 sacks during a tenure lasting from 1996 to 2003. He played in 107 games for the Jaguars while harassing opposing quarterbacks. His final season with the team, 2003, featured him posting six sacks.

The former Kentucky standout has been a key contributor throughout his NFL career. He made an immediate impact as a rookie while posting 10.5 sacks and earning his first trip to the Pro Bowl. He then posted 17.5 sacks during the 2023 season as he earned his second trip to the Pro Bowl.

Hines-Allen has continued to be productive on defense this season as the Jaguars have performed above expectations. The team entered this matchup with the Chargers at 5-4, putting them in second place in the AFC South. The Jaguars remain in contention for a playoff spot, but the defense and Hines-Allen will need to keep producing at this rate in order to continue on this path.
