Al Michaels, 81, says he plans to keep going if Amazon will have him

Al Michaels is not ready to hang up the headset. The legendary play-by-play voice, now 81, said he wants to keep calling "Thursday Night Football" for Amazon Prime Video, a job he has held since the 2022 season.

"I feel really good right now. It's been a good year. A lot of fun. I love the people I'm working with," Michaels said on the SI Media with Jimmy Traina podcast. "So if I had to make a decision today, I would want to come back."

He made it clear, though, that the choice is not entirely his.

"It's a two-way street," he said. "They could tell me, 'Hey, we gotta move on. It's time to make a transition.' All that. It could happen. But as of the moment, as we sit here on this mid-November afternoon, I feel really good.

"Still love what I do. And again, work with a tremendous crew. So, yeah, I think at this moment in time, I'd like to continue."

Michaels left NBC for Amazon after the tech giant acquired exclusive "TNF" rights beginning in 2022, marking the first time a full NFL package aired on a streaming platform. He calls the games with longtime college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit.

Michaels initially signed a three-year deal worth $15 million per season, then returned on a one-year contract to evaluate his future annually.

The Brooklyn native and longtime Los Angeles resident was the signature voice of "Monday Night Football" for decades before partnering with John Madden at NBC for "Sunday Night Football" in 2006.

Amazon has six games left on its 2025 slate, including Thursday's Bills-Texans matchup and the Black Friday game between the Bears and Eagles. Michaels expects to be there, provided Amazon still wants him in the booth.
