The Carolina Panthers will host the Los Angeles Rams without a member of the secondary. The NFL has suspended safety Tre'von Moehrig for punching an opposing player in the groin.

The league announced the suspension on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after ESPN cameras showed Moehrig using his left fist to punch San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings in the groin after a fourth quarter play. This act falls under the unsportsmanlike conduct category.
"Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which applies to 'any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship,' including, among others, 'throwing a punch, or a forearm, or kicking at an opponent," the rule states, per the NFL.

Moehrig has the opportunity to appeal the penalty. The league will also continue to review Jennings throwing a punch into Moehrig's facemask after the game ended, but the 49ers receiver will avoid a suspension. A fine will be more likely.
"I was just responding, to me, to some childish behavior," Jennings said about his punch. He continued and said that he did not retaliate in the moment because the window is "so small." Jennings said that he did not want to make any mistakes. He would like the referees to help him out when they can.

A second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Moehrig started his career with the Las Vegas Raiders. He spent four seasons with the Silver and Black while starting 64 of the 66 games in which he appeared. He posted 207 combined tackles, six interceptions, three sacks, and eight tackles for a loss.
Moehrig joined the Panthers this season and has started all 12 games. He has one interception, one sack, 10 tackles for a loss, and 81 combined tackles. According to Pro Football Focus, he has an overall grade of 66.7, putting him 37th out of 94 ranked players.
