Carter Hart returned to NHL ice on Tuesday night, and the moment hit him hard.

The Golden Knights goalie made his first appearance in nearly two years, stopping 27 of 30 shots in a 4-3 win over the Blackhawks in Las Vegas. When overtime ended and the horn sounded, Hart was mobbed by teammates near the crease.
It was a full-circle scene for a player who has spent the last two years fighting accusations and waiting for his name to clear.
"Everybody here has been so great," Hart told reporters after the game. "They've been very welcoming. The organization has been awesome. I'm just grateful for everything and the opportunity here."
Hart, 27, was acquitted this summer in a Canadian court. He and four former members of Canada's world junior team had been accused of sexual assault stemming from a 2018 incident.
In July, a judge ruled that prosecutors could not meet the burden of proof, saying the allegations lacked the credibility needed for a conviction. All five players were found not guilty.
"I'm just so happy to be playing the game again."

Hart signed with Vegas in October and has been practicing with the team while preparing for a return. The crowd response on Tuesday was warm, though plenty of fans online voiced their discomfort with Hart playing again.
The Golden Knights addressed that part of the story when they signed him. The team said it followed all league rules and remains committed to the values it expects from its players. Hart, for his part, said he is focused on moving forward.
