Raiders' Pete Carroll: Well beyond the feeling that I'm coaching for my job

The Raiders are limping to the finish line, and Sunday somehow managed to set a new low.

In a loss to the Eagles, Las Vegas failed to reach 100 total yards for the second time this season, another grim marker in what has become a thoroughly miserable 2025. The Raiders are 2-12 entering the final weeks, a far cry from the optimism that existed back in the spring.

Coach Pete Carroll promised wins during the NFL offseason. There have been very few.

So is Carroll coaching for his job in 2026?

"No, I don't feel like that at all. I really don't," Carroll told reporters Monday. "I'm well beyond that."

Carroll, who turned 74 in September, was then asked if he would be willing to oversee a rebuild, a word that now feels unavoidable.

"Well, it's looking like that's what's necessary," he said. "We need to keep working to get better in all areas. I came in here thinking we were going to turn it right away. I really did. That's not what's taken place, unfortunately."

The frustration is obvious, and Carroll did not try to hide it.

"We hate what's going on," he said. "There isn't anybody in here that doesn't want to do something better than what we're showing right now. Nobody's feeling that more than I am."

Asked why things have gone so far sideways, Carroll pointed inward.

"Blindly optimistic as I am, I thought we would come in here and have a big impact," he said. "Right now, it doesn't feel like that."

Still, Carroll insists the struggles have only fueled him.

"I don't know any other way of looking at it," he said. "We're just getting started."

Whether the Raiders see it the same way remains to be seen. With three games left against the Texans, Giants and Chiefs, Las Vegas has a small window to show progress. Otherwise, Carroll's confidence may not be enough to guarantee a return next season.
