Fox Sports airs tribute to Greg Biffle during Panthers-Bucs

The Fox Sports broadcast crew used Sunday's NFC South battle between the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers to air a tribute to Greg Biffle, one of seven victims of a plane crash in North Carolina.

The tribute took place as the cameras showed an aerial view of Bank of America Stadium, the Panthers' home stadium in the heart of Charlotte, North Carolina.

"Greg Biffle, a NASCAR legend who had career success at all three levels of the sport, did great humanitarian work, died this past Thursday in a plane crash with his family," play-by-play man Chris Myers said. "Our thoughts, prayers with him, the NASCAR family, and all friends."

The last few days have featured residents of North Carolina honoring Biffle, wife Cristina, daughter Emma, son Ryder, Dennis Dutton, Jack Dutton, and Craig Wadsworth after a fatal plane crash in Statesville.

Many in the area have told stories about these victims and the impact that they made on those around them. Others have flown flags at half mast along I-77 as a tribute to the those seven souls.

Many others have traveled to downtown Mooresville, North Carolina, where Biffle has a plaque on the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame's Walk of Fame. They have left flowers and wreaths.

Myers was a fitting person to deliver this tribute for Fox Sports considering his extensive ties to the NASCAR Cup Series. The veteran broadcaster may spend the fall and winter calling NFL games, but he spends each spring working on Fox Sports' coverage of Cup Series races.

Myers has hosted Cup Series pre-race coverage since the 2001 season — with the exception of a couple seasons — and he has hosted pre-race coverage of the Daytona 500 each season. He remained heavily involved in the Cup Series throughout Biffle's entire full-time career (2003-2016), so he had an up-close look as the veteran driver contended for wins and titles.
