Speaking publicly this week, Sebastian Telfair said the Bad Boy Records cofounder remains in good spirits despite his current situation.
"Diddy's holding it down," Telfair told TMZ Sports. "He's doing what he gotta do. And where he's at, they're going to help him."
Telfair acknowledged that Combs had been living what he described as a "rock star life" before his incarceration, particularly when it came to partying and drugs. He suggested the time away could serve as a reset.
"With the time he's getting to himself, it could be useful in turning over a new leaf," Telfair said.
Combs is currently serving a sentence related to a conviction under the Mann Act. Telfair, meanwhile, has already completed his own recent legal situation, having served time for violating the conditions of his supervised release tied to a healthcare fraud case.
Now 40, his NBA days are long behind him, but he said his basketball career is not finished just yet. He revealed that he has signed a contract to play in the Big3, Ice Cube's three-on-three league.
"No one knows this yet, but the contract is signed," he said. "I'm coming for the MVP."
For Telfair, it marks a return to the spotlight. For Combs, at least in Telfair's view, it is a period of reflection and survival.
