Michael Che sat down with "Irvin" during Saturday night's episode of the long-running sketch comedy show. New cast member Kam Patterson, a stand up comedian who rose to prominence on "Kill Tony," donned University of Miami gear while playing Irvin for the sketch.

Patterson had the raspy voice, the mannerisms, and the high energy of Irvin as he covered Miami's run through the College Football Playoffs and how he and Che are secretly brothers. He also revealed how he will "run" from New York City to Miami so he can be on site for the National Championship on Monday, Jan. 19 (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).

"I'm running there," Patterson/Irvin said. "I figure if I leave now, hop on (I-95), depending on traffic, I figure it will take me about 6.5 hours.

"...That's right, Michael. So if you see an angry 60-year-old man running down Highway 95, well over the speed limit, with bugs all over his face and an a— filled with police tranquilizer darts, you'd better get out the way."

Patterson also ended his appearance on "Saturday Night Live's" Weekend Update segment by holding up the "U" symbol and saying, 'Belt to a—." This particular phrase is one that has close ties to Irvin.

He has yelled it multiple times while making appearances at University of Miami games. He has also pulled off his belt and used it to repeatedly beat Gatorade containers covered in sweatshirts for the opposing teams. This includes Ole Miss and Ohio State.

Irvin, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Dallas Cowboys, spent three college seasons at the University of Miami. He posted 143 receptions for 2,423 yards and 26 touchdowns in 33 games. Twice, he led the conference in touchdown receptions.

He also won the National Championship in 1987. The Miami Hurricanes defeated the Oklahoma Sooners to close out an undefeated season. Interestingly, Indiana won the college basketball National Championship that season. Now, the two universities will meet on the football field to close out the 2025-26 season.
