According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, McDaniel informed the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday that he has withdrawn his name from their search. He had an in-person interview set for Wednesday, but he will not make that sitdown.

McDaniel, who coached the Miami Dolphins for four seasons, remains in the mix for two other NFL teams in need of a head coach. It is possible that he ends up with either the Baltimore Ravens or Las Vegas Raiders.

Head coach is not the only possible role for the former Miami Dolphins head coach. Pelissero reports that McDaniel has multiple offers for an offensive coordinator position. McDaniel also interviewed with the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday as the team seeks to replace the fired Greg Roman.

McDaniel has extensive experience working with NFL offenses, dating back to his tenure with the Houston Texans that began in 2006. He has worked as an offensive assistant for multiple teams, as a wide receivers coach, and as a run game coordinator.

McDaniel's lone season as offensive coordinator came in 2021. He guided the San Francisco 49ers offense as the team went 10-7 and reached the NFC championship game.

The 49ers ranked seventh in yards and 13th in scoring as Jimmy Garoppolo started 15 of the 17 games. Deebo Samuel served as the team's top option as he rushed for 365 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 77 passes for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns.

With McDaniel achieving success as a coordinator, he will quickly land a new job. It just remains to be seen which team he will join.

The Browns, however, will move forward as one of three AFC North teams trying to hire a new head coach. The Ravens and Steelers are the other two teams in the division needing to hire a new coach.

The Browns have completed two interviews with defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, who served as head coach of the Lions from 2009 until 2013.

The AFC North team also interviewed Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski, Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden Durde, Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher, and current offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.
