Rangers legend Ron Duguay diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer as family asks for help

Ron Duguay, a defining figure in New York Rangers history, has been diagnosed with stage four cancer, the 68-year-old revealed this week. The disease originated in his colon and has already forced multiple surgeries, including the removal of his appendix and gallbladder.

Duguay said he has been battling the illness for more than a year.

"I find it extremely hard asking for funds," he said, via the New York Post. "Normally, I'm helping others."

That reluctance is exactly why his daughters stepped in. The family has launched a GoFundMe to help cover mounting costs tied to treatment, travel, and alternative care. As of midweek, the campaign had already raised more than $30,000.

According to the family, Duguay's health took a dangerous turn during earlier treatment in Florida, prompting a move to California so he could be closer to them. That decision now requires biweekly cross-country travel, adding another financial strain to an already overwhelming situation.

Duguay remains determined. He is pursuing a combination of traditional and alternative treatments and says rising cancer markers have only strengthened his resolve.

"I need to get better so I can help others," he said.

Duguay is woven into Rangers lore. A first-round pick in 1977, he helped lead the team to the 1979 Stanley Cup Final and later became a familiar voice on MSG Network.
