Taryn Hatcher will not return to NBC Sports Philadelphia's Phillies coverage this season, a move that caught plenty of fans off guard after her "cat's out of the bag" post lit up social media.
Now we know why.
Why #NBC Sports SHOCKINGLY cut ties with beloved Phillies sideline reporter Taryn Hatcher Her contract expired after 2025 season → network chose NOT to renew & ELIMINATED the entire sideline reporter position! pic.twitter.com/UJFGkn7GKW

NBCSP leadership says it is shifting its storytelling approach as baseball evolves. Alexandra Matcham, the network's vice president of content, told the Philadelphia Business Journal that coverage is changing to reach a broader audience and bring "a different approach" to broadcasts moving forward.
Translation? The sideline role is gone.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Hatcher's contract was not renewed after the 2025 season and the position itself was eliminated. When NBCSP released its spring training plans, her name was noticeably absent.
Hatcher joined NBC Sports Philadelphia in 2018, first as the Flyers rinkside reporter before moving into pre- and postgame hosting and eventually landing the Phillies sideline job. She also worked 76ers broadcasts during her tenure.
In a message to fans, Hatcher called the decision "heartbreaking" but thanked viewers and colleagues for what she described as a fun and memorable run.
Broadcast booths change. Roles evolve. Networks pivot.
Still, when a hometown reporter who built real chemistry with fans disappears from the screen, people notice.
And in Philadelphia, they always will.
