Paris Gaines, a 22-year-old junior forward at the University of Memphis, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault following a disturbance at an apartment complex near campus.
According to Memphis police, officers responded just after midnight to a call about a possible assault in the 600 block of Tiger Estate Cove, per WREG.
Three women told officers that a friend of theirs had come to their door claiming Gaines had jumped her. When the witnesses went outside, they said they saw Gaines standing near her apartment holding a gun and looking for the alleged victim.
Police reports say the witnesses told officers Gaines made a threatening remark while searching for the woman.
By the time officers arrived, the alleged victim had already left the area. Gaines was taken into custody at the scene.
Investigators say Gaines later admitted she had been standing outside her residence with a gun but denied pointing it at anyone or making threats.
Witnesses later identified Gaines in a photo lineup, according to police. Detectives also executed a search warrant at her apartment and said they recovered a black Taurus handgun.
Gaines is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday as the case moves forward.
