The three-time Supercars champion-NASCAR winner will join Niece Motorsports on May 8. He will drive the No. 4 Chevrolet Silverado at Watkins Glen International while Circle B Diecast, DQS, and JF Electric serve as sponsors.

This race at the New York road course will mark the first time since the 2023 season that van Gisbergen will compete in the Truck Series. He made his lone start in the series at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park while driving for Niece Motorsports. He finished 19th in that race.

"I'm really excited to have the opportunity to race for Niece Motorsports at Watkins Glen," said van Gisbergen in a press release. "I raced the truck once back in 2023 at IRP and it was epic!

"Happy to be back at one of my favorite tracks. Hopefully we have a good crack at it. Thanks to Niece Motorsports, Circle B Diecast, DQS, J.F. Electric, Chevrolet, and Trackhouse for giving me the opportunity. It's going to be a lot of fun."

This race at Watkins Glen is one that van Gisbergen circled. He previously told FanBuzz after a win at Circuit of the Americas that he wanted to make his Truck Series return. He also specifically mentioned Watkins Glen.

"I would love to drive one of those trucks," van Gisbergen said in response to a question from FanBuzz. "I think maybe it's Watkins (Glen) or something later in the year is free, so I'm trying.

"But it's hard to do. Everything costs money, I guess. But yeah, love to do more Truck starts."

The Truck Series vehicles don't particularly correlate to the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series or Cup Series cars. So why would van Gisbergen want to dabble in these other series?

One reason is that he loves racing. Another is that it's fun to win. A third reason is that he can use these extra starts to experiment with braking techniques, different lines, and other strategies to make him better at these circuits.
