Authorities said the 65-year-old was found by a stadium cleaner during routine checks, via The Daily Mail. Police responded to the scene and quickly secured the area as part of an investigation.

According to German outlet Bild, the man had attended an event at the stadium the previous day. Investigators believe he may have suffered a medical emergency before collapsing. There is no indication of foul play at this time.

One lingering question is how the man went unnoticed for so long. Police said it remains unclear why no one reported him missing before he was discovered the following day.

The man was identified as a local resident of Gelsenkirchen.

In a statement, Schalke 04 expressed its condolences.

"The club reacted with great dismay to the news that a deceased person was found in a restroom at the Veltins-Arena," the statement read. "Schalke 04 expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved."

The club added that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing and declined further comment, directing inquiries to police.

Schalke said it is cooperating fully with authorities.

The Veltins Arena, home to the German club, most recently hosted a match on April 19.
