Miller, a former Sun Devils player, was remembered by colleagues and coaches for his energy and positive impact on those around him.

Northern Arizona assistant coach Max Silver, who worked with Miller at Arizona State, said the news was difficult to process.

"Steve and I, we came in together as GAs," Silver said, via PennLive. "He sat right next to me every game day up in the box. When I was going crazy he was the one trying to help me calm down a little bit with his big ole smile.

"It hit me pretty hard. Man, just his smile, his energy. Like, everything about Steve was that he was so positive. He was a guy that just wanted to make sure that everyone around him got better. ... He will truly, truly be missed."

Miller played for Arizona State from 2015 to 2019, appearing in 49 games and making 35 starts. He later returned to his alma mater as a member of the coaching staff.

Chris Karpman, who covers the program, said Miller had experienced recent medical issues.

Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham also paid tribute.

"Praying for everyone who knew Steve," Dillingham said. "He had a joy for people that was unmatched and impacted so many lives. We lost a good one."

A native of Gilbert, Arizona, Miller attended Gilbert High School and was a three-star recruit in the 2015 class.

Fans and members of the football community shared condolences on social media, remembering Miller for his character and the relationships he built throughout his career.
