According to TMZ, the 67-year-old Taylor is recovering back at home. He was discharged late last week after spending one week in the hospital. He was apparently dealing with pancreatitis. This is an inflammation of the pancreas, which can be either acute or chronic.
The chronic symptoms can include intense long-lasting abdominal pain, weight loss, nausea, and possibly diabetes. The acute symptoms can include sudden or intense pain in the abdomen, fever, clammy skin, nausea, abdominal tenderness, and rapid pulse.
Patients who experience acute symptoms must seek medical help to avoid potentially life-threatening complications.
Taylor was initially hospitalized on April 23. He arrived at the emergency room before being transferred to another area of the hospital.
The New York Daily News then heard from Taylor's attorney Arthur Aidala, who said that the former New York Giants player dealt with abdominal issues. Aidala expressed the belief that Taylor would be fine.
The second overall pick in the 1981 NFL Draft, Taylor spent his entire 13-year career with the New York Giants. He produced for the team on a consistent basis while chasing down opposing quarterbacks and offensive skill players.
Taylor delivered 142 sacks during his career, which still stands as the team record. Michael Strahan is second with 141.5 sacks. He earned All-Pro honors eight times while piling up these stats. He won Defensive Player of the Year three times, including as a rookie in 1981.
Taylor's career achievements also included 10 trips to the Pro Bowl, an MVP award in 1986, and a spot on the All-1980s team. He also won two Super Bowls with the Giants.
The Virginia native's playing career ended after the 1993 season. He then became a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999.
