A longtime star for the Los Angeles Rams is reportedly considering a return from retirement after his former team added a major piece to the defense. Aaron Donald could very well return to the NFL.

The Rams pulled off a trade on Monday to acquire reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett. This immediately created questions about whether Donald would want to suit up for another season so that he could play next to Garrett.

Sports personality Pat McAfee asked the question. He said that he reached out to Donald about the possibility and received an answer.

"I reached out to (Aaron Donald) this morning," McAfee wrote on X on Tuesday. "According to source(s) it for sure got him thinking..

"He said he's 35 and he's gotta see if that fire can light backup.. Aaron Donald and Myles Garret playing together with the Rams would be INSANE."

Donald, a former standout for Pittsburgh, entered the NFL as the 13th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He landed with the Rams — then based in St. Louis — and he kicked off a wildly productive career.

Donald played for 10 years, and he only missed eight games. He racked up 111 sacks, 543 combined tackles, 260 quarterback hits, 24 forced fumbles, and one safety.

He won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2014, Defensive Player of the Year three times (2017, 2018, 2020), and he earned a trip to the Pro Bowl every season of his career. He also earned First-Team All-Pro honors eight times.

Donald won a Super Bowl with the Rams, and he played in 11 playoff games with the Rams. His final game before walking off into retirement was a playoff loss to the Lions to close out the 2023 season.

"Here's what I would tell you guys overall, too: Aaron is a guy that I stay really close in touch with, and I know the respect that he has for Myles," head coach Sean McVay said during a press conference.

"Talked to him about the opportunity to bring him on board. If Aaron decides he wants to dust 'em off at the age of 35, I bet you he can still do it at a pretty high clip."
