The streaming giant will debut Color Book on June 19, bringing audiences a father-son story centered around family, loss and a memorable trip to the ballpark.
Written and directed by David Fortune, the film follows a widowed father who is learning how to raise his young son with Down syndrome after the death of his wife. As they adjust to life together, the pair set out on a journey across the Atlanta area with one goal in mind — attending their first baseball game together.
The movie marks Fortune's feature-film debut and grew out of AT&T's Untold Stories competition, which awarded him the resources to bring the project to life.
"Color Book is a heartfelt story about love, family, and the communities we come from," Fortune said in promotional materials released ahead of the film's Netflix debut.
The cast includes Will Catlett, Brandee Evans, Terri J. Vaughn and newcomer Jeremiah Daniels.
While baseball fans shouldn't expect a traditional sports movie packed with action on the field, the game plays a meaningful role throughout the story, serving as the destination for a father and son navigating life after tragedy.
The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and generated positive attention for Fortune's directing work, earning him recognition from industry observers as a filmmaker to watch.
Now, Netflix subscribers will get the opportunity to experience the story when Color Book begins streaming June 19.
