Clarkson revealed the news during the latest season of his Prime Video show, Clarkson's Farm. He sat down with Kaleb Cooper and Charlie Ireland and said that he had cancer. He told them that he had known since May and that he had a biopsy done.
Clarkson did not provide details about the location of the cancer. He said that while the cancer is aggressive, doctors caught it early. This gave him a better chance of beating the diagnosis.
"I'll have to go and have an operation and then, the operation is in and out in no time, but your body's out of action for a little while," he said during the episode.
Prior to the episodes airing, Clarkson posted a video on Instagram. He said that ordinarily, they try to keep the show charming and cheerful. This was not the case with the final two episodes.
"They're none of those things, really. They're a difficult watch," he said. "They're really, really difficult."
While Clarkson is currently a farmer in the countryside, he built a career in the automotive industry. He hosted Top Gear alongside Richard Hammond and James May for more than 20 years.
They reviewed cars, traveled the world together on memorable trips, took part in ridiculous challenges, and entertained millions of viewers worldwide with their unique approach to motoring. They also dropped many pianos on Morris Marinas.
The BBC fired Clarkson from Top Gear after an altercation with a producer, but he continued bringing his flair to the automotive world. He, Hammond, and May headed to Prime Video to create The Grand Tour. This series launched in 2016.
The Grand Tour continued delivering the hijinks that viewers craved for nearly a decade. Though the format went from a more traditional studio setup to one focused more on grand adventures in feature-length form.
The trio ended their run on The Grand Tour after 2024's One for the Road, which took them back to Africa and the site of their first true adventure together. They have since briefly reunited for a conversational series, The Grand Tour-ish.
