Brett Scrogham, 23, died after suffering a gunshot wound Thursday night near the Indiana Convention Center, according to police and local reports.

Scrogham was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators said a witness reported hearing gunshots and seeing a man flee the area. No arrests had been announced as of this week, and the shooting remains under investigation.

According to family members and local media reports, Scrogham was heading to meet his parents to attend an Indianapolis Indians baseball game when the shooting occurred.

His death has drawn an outpouring of tributes from friends, former classmates and community members.

Scrogham graduated in May from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, where he was recognized among the school's top students.

Dwayne Sawyer, a longtime family friend, remembered Scrogham as a gifted young man with a bright future.

"He was about to change the world," Sawyer told local television station WRTV. "He was destined for greatness."

Indiana Sen. Jim Banks also paid tribute to Scrogham on the Senate floor, describing him as a young man whose friends remembered him as compassionate, faith-driven and always willing to help others.

Though authorities have released few details about a possible motive, police continue to seek information related to the shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Indianapolis police.
